#BeActive 2025 – A Decade of Promoting Movement
30/06/2025
Ten years after its launch in 2015, this year’s #BeActive campaign officially kicked off on 23 June with a call to “Move More, Scroll Less.” Organised by the European Union, this popular initiative spans three months of physical activity and community engagement culminating in the European Week of Sport (EWOS) on September 23-30, which is also celebrating its tenth anniversary. Over the past ten years, the #BeActive campaign has reached 42 countries and regions, engaging over 103 million participants in around 353,000 events.
Under the theme ‘#BeActive – Then. Now. Always,’ the 2025 campaign highlights the physical, mental, and social benefits of regular movement and encourages individuals to prioritise physical activity over sedentary pursuits like gaming and social media use. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. Individuals and organizations can get involved by joining #BeActive activities, or simply incorporating more physical activity into their daily routines.
One of the highlights of EWOS is the European School Sport Day, which takes place on 26 September. This annual event focuses on mass participation and enjoyment over structured competition, and often introduces students to fun, less traditional sports.
“As we mark the #BeActive campaign’s tenth anniversary, it is more important than ever to raise awareness of the need to keep moving,” says ISCA General Secretary Jacob Schouenborg. “We need to carve out time for physical activity and sport in spite of our busy lives and excessive screen time.”
